JOHN AGNEW, ARTIST
The iconic image for our FROM THE BIG BANG TO THE WORLD WIDE WEB™ website is a work we commissioned for our project from the distinguished naturalist artist, John Agnew. With a background in museum work (including a position as Curator of Exhibits at the Science Museum of Palm Beach County), training in science, and a degree in fine arts from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Art and Architecture, he has pursued a free-lance career as an illustrator for museums, zoos, and other media since 1983. He has designed exhibits, painted murals and dioramas, and produced a wide variety of illustrations of ancient and modern life forms and landscapes for museums, zoos, and U.S. National Parks, including the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History and Science, The Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, the Cincinnati Zoo, the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, South Carolina, and the Moscow Zoo. His depictions of modern and prehistoric life are amazingly photo-realistic, and he has generously shared many of his techniques and procedures in his book, Painting the Secret World of Nature (2001, North Light Books). For more information on John Agnew and his work, please visit his website at http://www.angelfire.com/id/wildscenes/.
